Fun Fact Friday!
We all know that our beautiful spring blossoms are a defining characteristic of the streets of Victoria, but...
Did you know that in the 1930s Japan donated over 3000 cherry trees to our city, after winning first place in a parade here.
These cherry trees now make up about 23% of the 33,000 trees managed by the city.
The blossoms in this pic are actually from plum trees, which blossom earlier than the cherry trees and have a lighter (almost white) colour, in contrast to the more vibrant pink of the cherry trees. Both are beautiful and together they keep us swimming in blossoms all spring!
